Today was a calmer day and staffing so I got to sit down with my preceptor and ask more questions. There were some interviews for the new job positions that opened and new hires to get staffed with preceptors. I got to see the implementation of the behavior interview approach which was interesting.
The main issue we delt with today were hook-ups in the epic system. There was a patient trying to be discharged from the floor for a doctor's appointment and the physician was not able to access the epic discharge program. We talked to chief nursing officer to work out the problem with the physician.
We discussed the interview topics so that I could complete my interview paper requirements.

  1. I was able to participate in an interview .We interviewed for tech postions in the ICU .The person interviewing was a medical assistant in a MD office ,since I work in a doctors office I was able to relate what an MA 's job is in an office.Often they take and iniate MD's orders they call in RX's ,order and draw labs, evaluate labs ,notify MD of results and act as case managers .The postion she was hiring for would require less critical skill ,passing water ,changing beds ect.I pointed this out in the interview so she would be able to think about weather she was really interested in this job knowing her respsibilities would be less challanging. She ended up not taking the job. After the interview the nurse manager and suporvisors were interested in finding out exactly what MA 's do and were able to use this information in subsequent interviews.
