Today I had my first clinical day! It was really exciting and I think I am going to learn a lot this semester. I didn't have much time to talk one on one with my preceptor because we were in meetings all day about staffing for the swine flu since ER admission have increased so much over the weekend. We spent the day talking about budgeting for more nurses for the increased need in the ER for the flu season and getting positions filled. We also discussed how they are going to work the ER so the wait times are not as long because of some complaints this passed weekend. I have realized that getting Doctors and NNP's to cover your hospital can be a very political issue and cause a lot of frustration between hospitals. I am relieved to have figured out a plan for my change project, so that I can get the research underway! I look forward next week to discuss objectives and complete the interview of my preceptor.

Well, I think I am getting closer to starting my clinicals. I have recieved my schedule and marked my dates! I am hoping to be able to get in contact with my clinical person so that I can fax him the needed information to turn in by the 20th. I will be giving him a call today after I wake up from a small nap from working night shift. Yes this entry is being made at almost 2am. But only two more shift until DAYSHIFT!!! YES! Sorry, absolutely off topic, but I hope not to be making any more posts in the middle of the night. Although it is quiet in the NICU at night and gives me a chance to catch up on a little homework.

Setting up my clinicals...
Well, I think this week has been pretty successful. I have manage to get my clinical scrubs on sale today which is always good!
Actually, I have been a little more productive. I have talked with my hopeful preceptor and am excited. I think it will be the perfect experience. I have been talking to Children's Plano Director of inpatient services. He is super flexible and willing to follow my internship. I am getting paper work tonight to get the ball rolling this week. I would like to get all of the paperwork done by the end of the week...hopefully because I have to work Wednesday and Thursday. I just got a position on dayshift at my hospital so I don't have a solid schedule yet since I had to email it to the dayshift charge nurse upon notice that I was moving to days. I am hoping she can tell me when I am working so that I can fill out the schedule for my clinicals!
